This music comes to you now as a direct result of a group of Canadians
who have created a site called the RPM Challenge
www.rpmchallenge.com
They are a sort of cheerleading team who help artists (certainly this prone to procrastintion artist) to just get it done in the shortest month of the year
I signed up in 2021 and DEEP C WORLD is a result of that furiious Feburary adventure
The RPM Challenge here in 2023 has been an interesting time compression journey.
The Febuary 2021 the RPM challage had me looking for inspiration in the the depths of the worlds deep oceans.
Searching for deep ocean sounds, I discovered the web site of the Monterey Aquarium, and the amazing “live Hydrophonice recordings”
made by the MBARI group.
www.mbari.org
These amazing recordings of whales and other deep sea creatures
helped me in my serach to bring to life some of my favorite deep ocean heros,
the Yellow Submarine's mysterious captain, Hagbard Celine,
moody Captain Nemo and Dennis Hopper's evil Smoker from Waterworld.
2021 was a year of confinement and isolation for much of the world and I was able to reach out to friendsaround the world, through the relative magic of file sharing,
my friend drummer Danny Montgomery in Spain,
guitarists Steve Forward and Mike Cahen in nearby Paris and and get help in finishing a few of these pieces.
After the upload on March 1st of 2021, I kept going at it but was interested in doing more collaborations with friends, writing music together, which is like improvising, but sometimes less messy (sometimes)
I was very grateful to read that the 2023 RPM Challenge would accept works that could be “finished”, not just works composed during the Febuary time period, as it was in 2021,so I was able to complete some pieces that had been cooking during 2022.
Here you have the result of the gentle coaching from RPM and the patience of loved ones as I got down to it this February
Steven Pressfield has been a big inspiration as well
the “War of Art” prepped me for taking advantage
of the RPM Challenge's call to arms-
stevenpressfield.com/books/the-war-of-art/
“Creative work is not a selfish act or a bid for attention on the part of the actor. It's a gift to the world and every being in it.
Don't cheat us of your contribution.
Give us what you've got.” Steven Pressfield
I offer my sincere gratitude to my Muses who hovered nearby, my mentors who plyed me with their encouragement, my loved ones who aided and abbeted me, my musical pals who help me keep it up in the air and have a blast doing it, and the God of my understanding who had faith in me to just do it
Thank you RPM Challenge for helping me keep the door open... to the DEEP C WORLD
